Walking around Lucca - Passeggiando per Lucca

Surely Lucca will immediately striking for its walls, built in the early sixteenth century and the mid-seventeenth century.Between plane trees, horse chestnuts and oaks, whose colors change from season to season,  many citizens and tourists walk every day. Few monuments, like the Walls of Lucca, are so intensely lived.They represent an ideal place for outdoor sports and enjoy the fantastic view of the city and historical monuments.Climbing the walls you discover a populated world  by knights, soldiers and policemen involved in the defense of the city, as well as enjoy a privileged view of the monuments.

The city wall is 4.5 kilometers long and it consists of eleven ramparts joined by curtains. These structures have been preserved intact over time thanks to the criteria which have been built and athey re the best example in Europe of this type of military architecture. Each bastion has of course its peculiarities: that of San Colombano has a stone lion standing guard, one of San Paolino preserves the holes for nine cannons, to that of San Salvatore can be seen even the House of the Executioner, and on each a location inscription records the date of birthday. The rampart of San Frediano, the oldest, is the only one that has a rectangular shape, were later built ramparts called "Wingchair", round very prominent and therefore more suited to the new defense techniques.

But Lucca is not only "the walls". Around the center the atmosphere is medieval. For example via Guinigi, it has a medieval appearance and is among the most characteristic streets of the city. You can visit Guinigi's homes, housing fourteenth-century testimony of typical Lucchese Gothic-Roman and the characteristic tower, on top of which is an oak with huge hair and which offers a beautiful view of the city.

San Frediano church, located in the square and dates back to the twelfth century.,It has an impressive mosaic in the Byzantine style on the facade, quite unusual in the Romanesque. Inside the church, divided into three naves, there are many chapels. Among these was the family Trenta, which presents works by the Sienese sculptor Jacopo della Quercia (1374 -1438).

The famous Market Square follows the elliptical shape of the Roman theater that once stood here. The plan has influenced the entire Roman urbanism in Lucca.

Sicuramente Lucca vi  colpisce subito per le sue mura, costruite tra la prima metà del Cinquecento e la metà del Seicento.
Tra platani, ippocastani e querce, i cui colori mutano di stagione in stagione, ogni giorno passeggiano, si incontrano moltissimi cittadini e turisti provenienti da ogni parte del mondo. Pochi monumenti, come le Mura di Lucca, sono così intensamente vissuti.
Rappresentano un luogo ideale per praticare sport all'aria aperta e godere del fantastico panorama sulla città e sui monumenti storici.
Salendo sulle mura si scopre un mondo popolato da cavalieri, soldati e gendarmi impegnati nella difesa di città, oltre che godere di una vista privilegiata dei monumenti.  La cerchia muraria è lunga 4,5km ed è formata da undici baluardi congiunti da cortine: queste strutture si sono conservate intatte nel tempo grazie ai criteri con cui sono state costruite e sono il miglior esempio in tutta Europa di questo tipo di architetture militare. Ogni baluardo ha naturalmente le sue particolarità: quello di San Colombano ha un leone in pietra che fa la guardia, quello di San Paolino conserva le buche per ben nove cannoni, a quello di San Salvatore si vede persino la Casa del boia, e su ogni postazione un' iscrizione ricorda la data di compleanno. Il baluardo di San Frediano, quello più antico, è l' unico che presenta una forma rettangolare, in seguito furono costruiti bastioni detti "a orecchioni", rotondi assai sporgenti e quindi più adatti alle nuove tecniche di difesa.

Ma Lucca non è solo "le mura". In tutto il centro si respira un'atmosfera medievale. Per esempio via Guinigi,  ha un aspetto medievale ed è tra le vie più caratteristiche della città . Si possono visitare le case dei Guinigi, abitazioni trecentesche testimonianza della tipica casa lucchese gotico-romana e la caratteristica Torre, sulla cui sommità si trova un leccio con un'enorme chioma e da cui si gode un bellissimo panorama sulla città.

La chiesa di San Frediano, situata nell'omonima piazza e risalente al XII sec., presenta un suggestivo mosaico in stile bizantino sulla facciata, abbastanza singolare nel romanico. All´interno della chiesa, suddivisa in tre navate, si trovano numerose cappelle gentilizie. Tra queste quella della famiglia Trenta, che presenta opere dello scultore senese Jacopo della Quercia (1374 -1438).

La famosa Piazza del Mercato ricalca la forma ellittica del teatro romano che qui sorgeva. La planimetria romana ha influenzato tutta l'urbanistica lucchese







  

Barbiana School - la scuola di Barbiana

BARBIANA SCHOOL

Barbiana school was founded in 1956 for the first 6 boys who had finished elementary school.Don Lorenzo Milani organized this school at the rectory.It was an industrial training school where Don Lorenzo was the only teacher, and offered the opportunity to the children of mountain people and peasants who lived below Mount Giovi (Vicchio Mugello) to continue their education after elementary school.A poor school, where there was only one textbook, the boys in turn read the lesson and Don Lorenzo explained; where pupils  built tools, tables and chairs, libraries, mapswith their teacher.It was a school unlike any other, different for times, different for program, different in the way of teaching, different in content. All were eligible for the study, because they went to school to learn, not to be judged. They studied not only for themselves, but to become aware together citizens morally and intellectually.The school of Barbiana disbanded in October 1968. One year after the death of Don Lorenzo, but the rectory was the home of those who lived with him. This saved her from degradation due to neglect that, unfortunately, suffered all the other houses remained empty until the eighties, as a result of' abandonment of the countryside, and has kept almost intact the 'matter of when we lived with Don Lorenzo his boys.Today the school premises are cared for and maintained by members of the Foundation Don Milani, some of whom were their pupils of Don Milani. A simple and poor school, but that definitely gave these students the basics of education.

La scuola di Barbiana  nasce nel 1956 per i primi 6 ragazzi  che avevano finito le elementari.

La organizzò  don Lorenzo Milani in canonica.

Era una scuola di avviamento industriale dove don Lorenzo era insegnante unico e offrì  la possibilità

ai figli dei montanari e dei contadini  che vivevano sotto il Monte Giovi (Vicchio  Mugello)

di continuare gli  studi dopo le elementari.

Una scuola poverissima, dove vi era un solo libro di testo, i ragazzi  a turno leggevano la lezione e don Lorenzo spiegava; dove gli alunni insieme al maestro si costruirono gli strumenti, i tavoli  e le sedie, le librerie, le cartine geografiche.

Era una scuola diversa da tutte le altre, diversa negli orari, diversa nel programma, diversa nel modo di insegnamento, diversa nei contenuti. Tutti erano idonei allo studio, perché a scuola si andava per imparare e non per essere giudicati. E si studiava non solo per sé stessi, ma per diventare tutti insieme cittadini consapevoli moralmente e intellettualmente.

La scuola di Barbiana si sciolse nell'ottobre 1968. Un anno dopo la morte di don Lorenzo, ma la canonica rimase la casa di chi abitava con lui. Questo l'ha salvata dal degrado dovuto all' abbandono che, purtroppo, subirono tutte le altre case rimaste vuote fino agli anni ottanta, in seguito all' abbandono delle campagne, ed ha mantenuto quasi intatto l' aspetto di quando ci viveva don Lorenzo con i suoi ragazzi.

 

Oggi i locali della scuola sono curati e mantenuti dai membri della Fondazione Don Milani, alcuni dei quali sono stati proprio alunni di Don Milani. Nonostante il continuo afflusso di scolaresche, gruppi e famiglie, la scuola e chiesa sono rimaste povere ed austere come un tempo. Sono stati restaurati gli ambienti, recuperati e catalogati materiali e libri e quando il visitatore entra nell'aula si ha l'impressione di vedere Don Milani ed i suoi alunni. Si respira ancora tutto l'amore che Don Milani ha provato per i suoi ragazzi ed è emozionante entrare nell'aula creata per quei ragazzi, creata insieme a loro, con ancora le sedie il tavolo ed il materiale scolastico utilizzato. Una scuola semplice, povera, ma  che sicuramente ha dato ai suoi alunni le basi non solo dell'istruzione, ma anche dell'educazione.

Offals' Festival - Sagra delle frattaglie

Greve in Chianti, from the 30th November to the 2nd December.

La cittadina, situata nel cuore del Chianti, si veste a festa per ospitare la ventesima edizione di questa sagra.

Le frattaglie, scarti del maiale che rappresentavano i piatti 'forti' della tradizione contadina, sono protagoniste di questo appuntamento enogastronomico che ogni anno ripropone sapori e saperi di una volta.

Potrete gustare trippa, lampredotto inzimino e con fagioli, stufato, trippa fritta, cipolline.
Non mancheranno comunque altri piatti come pizza cotta nel forno a legna, antipasti toscano, crostini, capofreddo (soprassata), sbriciolona, pappardelle col cinghiale, altri primi e carne alla griglia. Si potrà accompagnare il tutto con vini selezionati tra quelli delle migliori cantine del territorio.

Gli stand gastronomici resteranno aperti tutte le sere a cena dalle 19:30 e la domenica anche a pranzo dalle 12:30.
La Casa del Popolo di Strada in Chianti, dove si tiene l'evento, si trova in Largo della Cappellina 2, nei pressi di via Jacopo da Strada, sulla variante per Greve.

Autumnia

Autumnia e' una manifestazione dedicata all'agricoltura, all'alimentazione ed all'ambiente, con apertura dalle 9.00 alle 20.00, con oltre 120 espositori.
Tante le novità di questa  tredicesima edizione, che ogni anno vede una presenza massiccia di visitatori  e turisti, l'anno scorso, per esempio, sono state superate le 80.000 presenze. Convegni, concerti, esibizione della Protezione Civile, mostra di pittura e non solo.
 Nella piazza principale della cittadina, Piazza Marsilio Ficini, verranno allestiti stands enogastronomici, in cui sarà possibile degustare ed assaporare i prodotti del territorio, come il pollo del Valdarno, olio, vino e fagioli zolfini. Nella Piazza di via Del Puglia, invece, si potrà  ammirare l'esposizione zootecnica di  esemplari di razze bovine, ovine, suine e avicole allevate nelle aziende della zona. Ampio spazio verrà dedicato anche i bambini, infatti nella pineta verranno allestiti laboratori per i più piccoli,  come "Piccoli ispettori ambientali crescono" e "Imparare giocando".
Se volete provare dei brividi, potete approfittare dell'occasione per provare un volo in elicottero, in partenza dall'Antistadio!

Chestnut Festival- la castagna in festa

Inoltre per le strade del centro saranno allestiti stands gastronomici, dove potete gustare cibi a base di castagne e provare l'ottima birra di castagne!
Il tutto accompagnato da musica itinerante, spettacoli, concerti per le vie del paese e mercatini dell'artigianato locale, dell'antiquariato nel Parco del Pero e delle pulci in Piazza Indipendenzae per i più piccoli laboratori didattici!
Per l'occasione verranno anche organizzate visite guidate alle cantine nel centro storico.

International market - Il Mercato Iternazionale

Mangi italiano o mangi messicano? Sgranocchi le speciliatà del Casentino o preferisci quelle israeliane? Il Mercato Internazonale da sempre ha il debole per il pasto esotico.

Arezzo, nel terzo week end di ottobre, ospita ancora una volta stands agricoli, artigiani e  gastronomici provenienti da tutto il mondo, quest'anno saranno 150 operatori stranieri e 80 operatori italiani, che permettono di gustare, ammirare ed assaporare specilità tradizionali ognuno del proprio paese o regione. Inoltre sono presenti ben 70 stands dove non si mangia e non si beve e pescano nelle tradizioni e nei gioielli di mezzo mondo. Ma le code sono altrove. Agli stinchii sotto gli alberi del Porcinai,  allo speck dell'Eden, alle salsicce piccanti a ridosso delle mura, alla carne argentina di là dal bastione.

L'inizio della manifestazione è previsto per venerdì 19, con l'inaugurazione alle 15.00 e poi avanti, sia sabato 20 che domenica 21. Una maratona di 46 ore di apertura dei banchi, con gli opeartori in azione dalle 9 in poi. Ma in particolare per gli stands gastronomici, il simbolo di quest'evento, il clou arriva fino a nte alta: la chiusura è alle 2.00 di notte, con la sola eccezione di domenica. Le zone della   città che ospita la kermesse sono l'Eden, via Guadagnoli, via Margaritone, via Spinello, basso Corso, piazze S. Jacopo e Risorgimento. Per chi viene in macchina, il parcheggio più vicino e comodo  è il parcheggio  Mecenate in viale Mecenate, aperto 24h su 24.

Flavours festival - La festa dei sapori

Ideata ed organizzata da Agrifoglio Arte Sapori, la manifestazione cerca di mantenere viva nella popolazione la voglia e la curiosità di scoprire la grande tradizione alimentare e culinaria che conaddistingue il nostro paese.

Saranno presenti circa venti banchi di prodotti tipici provenienti da tutte le regioni d'Italia, dal Trentino alla Sicilia.

Sarà l'occasione per assaggiare, gustare, scoprire nuovi sapori, ma anche di passare due giornate in allegria, visto che saranno sempre presenti intrattenimenti musicale e spettacoli di vari artisti da strada.

Feast of the games for everyone - Firenze gioca!

Presso il teatro Obihall, Lungarno Aldo Moro, si terrà la piu importante manifestazione ludica di Firenze, rivolta a tutti, grandi e piccini. L'orario di apertura è il sabato dalle 12.00 alle 24.00 e la domenica dalle 10.00 alle 20.00. L'ingresso e' libero.

Saranno due giornate interamente dedicato ai giochi, antichi e moderni, provenienti da tutto il mondo; verranno allestite due ludoteche, una per i più piccoli ed un'altra per i giovani ed adulti, dove è possibile prendere in prestito gratuito i giochi. Accanto ad esse alcune associazioni propongono dimostrazioni, tornei e gare di giochi, sia tradizionali che innovativi, dando la possibilità di far conoscere ed apprezzare al pubblico le ultime novità.
Durante la manifestazione vengono proposti diversi laboratori per bambini, come quello di giocoleria e motricità, che riscuote sempre grande successo nel pubblico, soprattutto quello più giovane, il laboratorio di costruzione giochi ed oggetti con materiale di riciclo, un laboratorio di trucchi magici, un laboratorio di pittura...ed altro ancora.
Impossibile elencare tutte le iniziative. Se volete passare una giornata all'insegna del divertimento, ritornare per un po' bambini e sbizzarrirvi con giochi ed attività ludiche, questo e' il posto giusto per voi!

in auto: Sia da Nord che da Sud l'uscita consigliata della A1 è Firenze Sud. Dal casello percorrere tutto il raccordo verso Firenze (SP127). Superato il ponte di Varlungo sull’Arno, incolonnarsi a sinistra per svoltare al semaforo. Dopo 300 metri si trova il Teatro ObiHall sulla sinistra, di fronte alla sede Rai.

Rufina, near Florence, on 30th September.

Thirty-seventh edition of this great event which opens this fall. Tradition and culture combine to evoke the ancient bond between Rufina and Florence. On 29th September in Piazza Signoria the traditional parade for the delivery of wine to remember when the caravan of wagons starded from Rufina (the wagon is called "Carro Matto") with over 2000 bottles. Wine's arrival was celebrated with a ceremony and, in Piazza della Signoria, the Gonfalonier toasted with the Priors to the health of the people of Florence. The tradition is repeated again this year.


Sunday at 12:15 p.m there will be the blessing of Carro Matto  atthe church of S. Martino. At 3:00 p.m. the parade of the Florentine Republic and Carro Matto will parade through the streets carrying a tribute to the town of Rufina.
Later there will be an exhibition of the flag bearers of the Procession of the Florentine Republic at Villa Poggio Reale. The event will end at 10.00 p.m. with fireworks "Barrels of Bacchus."

 For the whole day on the streets of the center will be a marketplace of Chianti Rufina and Pomino and local craft products.

Trentasettesima edizione di questa grande manifestazione che apre l’autunno. Tradizione e cultura si fondono per rievocare l’antico legame tra Rufina e Firenze. Il 29 settembre in Piazza Signoria il tradizionale corteo per la consegna del vino ricorda quando da Rufina partivala carovana di carri ( il carro è chiamato "Carro Matto") con 2000 fiaschi sopra. L' arrivo del vino era festeggiato con unasolenne cerimonia ed in Piazza della Signoria, il Gonfaloniere brindava con i Priori allasalute del popolo fiorentino. La tradizione si ripete anche quest'anno.

Domenica alle 12,15 ci sarà la benedizione del Carro Matto alla chiesa di S. Martino. Alle 15,00 il corteo storico della Repubblica Fiorentina e il Carro Matto sfileranno per le vie del paese portando un omaggio al Comune di Rufina. In seguito ci sarà l’esibizione degli sbandieratori del Corteo della Repubblica Fiorentina a Villa Poggio Reale. La manifestazione terminerà alle 22,00 con lo spettacolo pirotecnico “Botti di Bacco".

Grape Festival - Festa dell'uva

The festival was founded at the beginning of last century to discover the typical products of the area produced by the surrounding farms, was born with poor means, that farm wagons pulled by oxen. This impression remains to this day, but began to turn when the town and was divided into four districts (Pallo', Furnace, St. Anthony and Sante Marie), among which was created just some competitiveness.

Today the party, which is always held on the last Sunday of September, includes a parade of three tanks for each district on the grapes; floats of splendid imagination and originality and chepossono also get over 10 meters in height, are driven by dance, music and extras. During the festival the town changes its appearance, the streets are crowded with tourists, the windows filled with people and the atmosphere of enthusiasm, joy and serenity fun because people are waiting for a whole year now, these days even for to make fun of wards opponents and losers. It has been in recent years, the festival includes a competition for the stores called "the window of grapes," in which retailers can indulge their imagination to decorate their shop windows in the most original and appealing as possible.

During the day, of course, it will be a tasting of typical food and wine of the country from the stands set up for the occasion.

La festa nasce agli inizi del secolo scorso per far conoscere i prodotti tipici della zona prodotti dalle aziende agricole circostanti, nasce con mezzi poveri, cioè carri agricoli trainati da buoi. Questa impronta rimane tutt'oggi, ma ha iniziato a trasformarsi quando la cittadina e' stata divisa in quattro rioni ( Pallo', Fornaci,Sant'Antonio e Sante Marie) , tra i quali e'sorta subito una certa competitività.
Oggi giorno la festa, che si tiene sempre l'ultima domenica del mese di settembre, prevede la sfilata di tre carri per ogni rione sul tema dell'uva; i carri allegorici, di splendida fantasia ed originalità e chepossono arrivare  anche sopra i10 metri di altezza, sono animati da balletti, musica e figuranti. In occasione della festa la cittadina cambia aspetto, le strade sono affollate di turisti,le finestre gremite di gente e si respira un'aria di entusiasmo, allegria e sereno divertimento, perché i cittadini per tutto un anno aspettano questo momento, questi giorni anche per poter prendersi gioco dei rioni avversari e perdenti. Negli ultimi anni la festa e'stata arricchita da un concorso per i negozi denominato "la vetrina dell'uva", in cui i negozianti possono sbizzarrire la loro fantasia per decorare la propria vetrina nel modo più originale e accattivante possibile.
Durante la giornata e', naturalmente, prevista la degustazione di cibi tipici e del vino della zona presso gli stands allestiti per l'occasione.

Feast of San Michele

 In Carmignano, in the province of Prato, from the 4th to the 6th October 2013.


 Each year, these days, Carmignanobecomes a colorful town, colorful of the four colors that belong to it: red, yellow, blue and white. These are the colors of the four quarters.

Since the Middle Ages the city's patron saint is celebrated with music, shows and games in the square, over time this festival has grown, but the tradition, the effect for San Michele were.

In celebration and as it is structured today, from Friday night through the streets of the old town you could go watch the parade of the four districts in which it is devided  the city. Each themed parade with floats and participants, for a maximum of thirty minutes, animating the main scenes of the representation in the central square of the old town. It is a folkloric parade, made up of music, dance, costumes and set indescribable. 
These shows will be held on Friday and Saturday at 9:30 p.m, Sunday, however, at 4:00 p.m.
The parade will be followed by traditional race of donkeys, which is held in the square, with a circuit repeated four times. The race is passionate, concitante, because the path and is complicated, since there are uphill, downhill, curves and more it is on the asphalt, which makes the route slippery. In order for the victory to be valid, the jockey who gets there first must break with one hand a circle of paper placed over the finish line.

A Carmignano, in provincia di Prato, dal 4 al 6 ottobre 2013.

Ogni anno, in questi giorni, Carmignano diventa una cittadina variopinta, colorata dei quattro colori che le appartengono: il rosso, il giallo, il celeste ed il bianco. Questi sono i colori dei quattro rioni.
Fin dal Medioevo viene festeggiato il patrono della città con musica, spettacoli e giochi in piazza, nel tempo questa festa si è'trasformata, ma la tradizione, l'effetto per San Michele sono rimasti.
Nella festa come e' strutturata oggi, Dal venerdì sera per le strade del centro storico poterete assistere alla sfilata dei quattro rioni in cui e'divisa  la città. Ognuno sfila con carri allegorici a tema e figuranti, per un tempo massimo di trenta minuti, animando le scene principali della rappresentazione nella piazza centrale del centro storico. È' una sfilata folcloristica, fatta di musiche, balli, figuranti e costumi indescrivibili. Queste sfilate si terranno il venerdì ed il sabato alle ore 21.30, la domenica, invece, alle ore 16.00.
Le sfilate saranno seguite dalla tradizionale corsa dei ciuchi, che si tiene nella piazza, con un circuito ripetuto quattro volte. La gara e'appassionata, concitante, acnhe perche' il percorso e' complicato, visto che ci sono tratti in salita, in discesa, curve e per di piu' sull'asfalto, che rende il tragitto scivoloso.  Affinché la vittoria sia valida, il fantino che arriva per primo deve sfondare con una mano un cerchio di carta posto sopra il traguardo.
